L J Acres was established March, 28, 2020 in Bertram, TX. We had a vision of owning a little piece of heaven in the Texas Hill Country and what better way to share our vision then with a variety of God’s creatures. It all started with a few dogs and cats and a mini donkey named Jack.
Today we have over 75 animals, 15 plus species, at any given time. Everything from livestock (goats, donkeys, cows and a horse) to tortoises, ferrets, chinchillas, rabbits, sugar gliders, guinea pigs, tenrecs and a bearded dragon.
We offer educational tours that last about 90 minutes and are done by appointment only. Our mission is to educate people about animal care and emphasizing the importance of researching animals before getting them.
This is important for a few reasons. First to make sure that they are knowledgeable of what goes into the care of the animals and such things as shot requirements, grooming, feeding, proper environment and overall habits as well as the long-term commitment. The second is making sure that the animal is a good fit for you and your family.
L J Acres also emphasizing the importance of adoption. There is an adoption or fosterorganization for pretty much any species of animal that you may be considering as a pet.
